1.Where is Copper Island? The Copper Island Fishing Retreat is located at Clifton Point on Tzartus Island in the Barkley Sound on the west side of Vancouver Island in beautiful British Columbia Canada.
2.How do I get there? Copper Island is an Island with boat or float plane access only.
3.When is the Copper Island Fishing Retreat? The retreat is held in August, male gender only.
4.What is the cost? The cost per adult is $75 per day. Ages 13-17 is $50 per day. Boys 12 and under are free. There is a $50 registration fee per person and a onetime $15 dollar ice fee.
5.Why should I come? Because you really want to and you like to fish too.
6.What is included in the cost? More then you think. The cost includes a bed in a nice dry room, good healthy meals, and secure boat moorage.
7.How many attend? Because of facility limitations, attendance is limited to 40 guests per day.
8.What do I bring? Bring a good attitude, towels, sleeping bag, fishing gear, wet weather gear, fishing license, cooler, personal toiletries etc. If you need any medication you should bring it with you.
9.When do I have to pay? All money must be received by August 1st for you to be considered as a guest at Copper Island. The registrations fee of $50 per person is due with the sign up.
10.Can I register now and pay later? Yes, if you want to be a part of the Copper Island
Fishing Retreat this year you should register as soon as possible and send in your registration fee.
11. I don't have a boat can I still come? The best bet is to find someone who has a boat and talk them into attending.
12. Are there indoor toilets? Yes, there are toilets and showers available.
13. Can I bring my pet? Only Seeing Eye dogs are allowed at the retreat.
14. Is there electricity? Yes, there is a limited amount of electricity that is generated on the island. Because we run on generators we ask you NOT to bring hairdryers, curling irons and other non essential high wattage appliances. Please contact us if you need to bring respirators etc.
15. Are there beds? Every one gets a bed at the retreat. You need only to bring a sleeping bag and a pillow.
16. Is alcohol permitted? No alcoholic beverages are allowed at the Copper Island Fishing Retreat... Why? Because we don't want to deal with boat accidents and many of the other potential problems associated with drinking.
17. Can I smoke at the camp? Smoking is allowed outside the buildings for those who must. Because of the fire potential at times, extreme caution must be used. Also, please no smoking on the dock or close to the boats and fuel.
18. Will I get sea sick? Most people fish in the protected waters of Barkley Sound, which for the most part is calm. If you decide to fish the open ocean we recommend you take something like Dramamine.
19. How old do I have to be? If you are able to read this, you are probably old enough. You should also be old enough to do the following things. Obey whoever is bringing you and obey all camp rules.
20. Where do I get fuel? Some people purchase their fuel in the town of Bamfield, which is located eight miles from camp. There is a spot closer called Poett Nook, we encourage our guests to use this during the fishing retreat.
21. Is there pizza delivery? Not yet.
22. Where can I buy bait? It is recommended that you purchase any bait before you arrive. (Your favorite fishing equipment store)
23. How much gear can I bring? You can bring all the junk you can cram into your boat, just don’t leave it behind. There is plenty of room on the island but we do keep the dock area clean.
24. Do you accept credit cards yet? No credit cards, just cash/checks.
25. How do I keep fish? You need to bring a cooler to keep and transport your catch.
26. Where do I get ice? We have saltwater shaved ice available on our dock. There is a one time $15 ice fee.
27. Is there a place to go hiking? Yes, there are a few hiking trails and an old copper mine worth exploring on Copper Island.
28. Should I bring bug spray? If you plan to do some hiking it is a good idea.
29. Can I swim? We have no idea. . . Yes, you can swim and yes, the water is on the cold side.
30. Is the food good? The food is always great!
31. Will I have a great time at Copper Island Fishing Retreat? You should have a wonderful time while attending Copper Island Fishing Retreat.
32. Where do I purchase my fishing license? Canada seems to be a good place. Traveling up I-5 take the truck exit at the border and stop at the General store just a mile after crossing the border. The Campbell River Store is on the right and they often give a better exchange rate for U.S. Funds.
33. Is there fresh water? Yes. There is filtered drinking water and potable water on the dock.
34. Are there public phones? No. Some people bring along their cell phones. Some work. Some don't.
35. What about kids? You are responsible for your own boys as there are no baby-sitters available at this time. They will either have to fish with you each time you go out or be supervised by another adult camper.
36. Will coming to Copper Island Fishing Retreat take care of all my problems? Yes. (Well, maybe you will forget about them for a good while!)
37. What happened to our beloved ICECREAM conference? Essentially, just a name change for legal purposes as Copper Island has taken ownership of the retreat. The retreat will continue on with similar dates and quality of service for all our guests.
38.What about the famous ICECREAM rag award for largest catch, the one that got away and spirit of the day? There will be new and exciting awards for 2012! |
