1.Where is ICECREAM? The ICECREAM conference is located at Clifton Point on Tzartus Island in the Barkley Sound on the west side of Vancouver Island in beautiful British Columbia Canada. The local people call it Copper Island.
2.How do I get there? Copper Island is an Island with boat or float plane access only.
3.When is ICECREAM? In 2008 ICECREAM will be held Aug 9 noon to Aug 24 noon, and is for the male gender only.
4.What is the cost? The cost per adult is $60 per day camp fee plus ice & registration.
5.Why should I come? Because you really want to and you like to fish too?
6.What is included in the cost? More then you think. The cost includes a bed in a nice dry room, good healthy meals, and secures boat moorage.
7.How many attend? Because of facility limitations, attendance is limited to approx 40 guests per day.
8.What do I bring? Bring a good attitude, towels, sleeping bag, fishing gear, wet weather gear, fishing license, cooler, personal toiletries etc. If you need any medication you should bring it with you.
9.When do I have to pay? All money must be received by July 1st for you to be considered as a guest at ICECREAM.
10.Can I register now and pay later? Yes, if you want to be a part of ICECREAM this year you should register as soon as possible.
11. I don't have a boat can I still come? It is not very likely to happen but if a spot opens on someone's boat you can. The best bet is to find someone who has a boat and talk them into attending.
12. Are there indoor toilets? Yes, there are toilets and showers available
13. Can I bring my pet? Only Seeing Eye dogs are allowed at ICECREAM
14. Is there electricity? Yes, there is a limited amount of electricity that is generated on the island.
15. Are there beds? Every one gets a bed at the conference. You need only to bring a sleeping bag and a pillow.
16. Is alcohol permitted? No alcoholic beverages are allowed at ICECREAM... Why? Because we don't want to deal with boat accidents and many of the other potential problems associated with drinking and dunking.
17. Can I smoke at the camp? Smoking is allowed outside the buildings for those who must. Because of the fire potential at times extreme caution must be used. Also, please no smoking on the dock or close to the boats and fuel.
18. Will I get sea sick? Most people fish in the protected waters of Barkley Sound, which for the most part is calm. If you decide to fish the open ocean I recommend you take something like Dramamine or carry a barf bag.. On second thought forget the bag and chum.
19. How old do I have to be? If you are able to read this, you are probably old enough. You should also be old enough to do the following things. Obey whoever is bringing you, obey all camp rules, fish when your father does and snore with the rest of the men!
20. Where do I get fuel? Some people purchase their fuel in the town of Bamfield, which is located eight miles from camp. There is a spot closer called Poett Nook, we encourage our guests to use this during ICECREAM.
21. Is there pizza delivery? Not yet.
22. Where can I buy bait? It is recommended that you purchase any bait before you arrive. (Your favorite fishing equipment store)
23. How much gear can I bring? If you want too, you can bring all the junk you can cram into your boat. There is plenty of room on the island but we do keep the dock area clean.
24. Do you accept credit cards yet? No credit cards, just U.S. cash.
25. How do I keep fish? You need to bring a cooler to keep and transport your catch.
26. Where do I get ice? We have saltwater shaved ice available on our dock.
27. Is there a place to go hiking? Yes, there are a few hiking trails and an old copper mine worth exploring on Copper Island.
28. Should I bring bug spray? If you plan to do some hiking it is a good idea.
29. Can I swim? We have no idea. . . Yes, you can swim and yes, the water is on the cold side. We also have canoes for those who want to paddle about.
30. Is the food good? The food is always great!
31. Will I have a great time at ICECREAM?You should have a wonderful time while attending ICECREAM.
32. Where do I purchase my fishing license? Canada seems to be a good place. Traveling up I-5 take the truck exit at the border and stop at the General store just a few miles up the hwy. It is on the right and they often give a better exchange rate for U.S. Funds.
33. Is there fresh water? Yes.
34. Are there public phones? Some people bring along their cell phones. Some work. Some don't.
35. Jerks? Anyone upsetting the harmony of ICECREAM will be asked to leave.
36. What about kids? You are responsible for your own boys as there are no baby-sitters or padded rooms available at this time. They will either have to fish with you each time you go out or be supervised by another adult camper.
37. Will coming to ICECREAM take care of all my problems? Yes. (Well, maybe you will forget about them for a good while!)
